A capacity crowd exchanged vegetable and flower seeds, toured the indoor farm, attended garden workshops and enjoyed live music. The children especially enjoyed watching the fish that are part of the Aquaponics display.

Cole English, 19, is in her second summer working at GrowHaus, having graduated from the Seed to Seed program last year. She is in the farmer-in-training program.

She heard Colby Gould speak two years ago in one of her classes at East High School.

"I got so excited by what he was saying," she remembered. "It made me want to learn how to grow my own food. I had never before heard how to make food happen, and how delicious it could be."

Now enrolled at the Community College of Denver, English said her goal is to one day own a farm.

"Being here, it has changed my life," she said.

Earlier this month, local community garden The GrowHaus was one of ten organizations in the running for a $50,000 award from Maxwell House, as part of the coffee maker's Drops of Good contest -- and we are happy to report the nonprofit has won. "We're still sorting out the logistics, but the money will go primarily to two places -- our hydroponics farm and renovations to our market space," says Coby Gould, The GrowHaus' Executive Director
